candied orange slices

dessert

ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 3 oranges
  • 1 bar dark chocolate
  • flakey sea salt

instructions

  1. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
  2. Wash and thinly slice the oranges. Place the slices in the boiling water for about 2 minutes.
  3. Remove the oranges from the water and place them on a wire rack.
  4. Dump out the water. Bring a fresh 1 1/2 cups of water and 1 1/2 cups of sugar to a boil (no need to get to candy temperature, we don’t want these to be hard)
  5. Place the orange slices in the water and reduce the heat to low.
  6. Boil the orange slices for 45-50 minutes, flipping them around every 10-15 minutes.
  7. Once the oranges are done, remove them from the water and place them on the cooling rack.
  8. While the orange slices are cooling, melt the chocolate in the microwave.
  9. Dip one half of each orange slice into the chocolate and place on a baking sheet. Transfer them to the fridge until the chocolate hardens.
  10. Lastly, top them with flakey salt & enjoy.
